After gaining an interest in technology in his early years of studies in India, Sharath also learned semiconductor chip design and manufacturing in Melbourne, Australia. He studied to PhD level with an ambition to design pressure-to-electricity energy conversion efficient materials with a passion fuelled by an underpinning mission of raising lives through technology. This vision influenced his far-reaching research in evolving sensing technology, electronic devices, and innovative materials to advance quality of life and health care. He established a strong pipeline of conductometric biosensors, stretchable electronics, and evolving processing methods. Point-of-care diagnosis and wearables have raised area of interest for him where he made it his top priority that these initial path-finding technologies become manufacturable and scalable. Through the close interaction with industrial partners, Sharath has bridged the knowledge gap between frontline research and application, making substantial contributions to the field of advanced semiconductor and materials science. The three pillars for Sharath’s leadership are threefold: team building, trust, and clear strategy.

With every project, the end goal or legacy the project leaves behind are the most important ones that drive him. He does not like short-term success. Sharath believes in allowing them to do their best and make use of resources and opportunities to the best of their capability. This does not always occur, and the failures which follow can be demotivating. But unless there’s trust and the freedom of individuals to do, the radical projects cannot be sustained. Sharath teaches sharing practising the ability for contribution without limit. There can be space for having a career, meaningful conversation, and otherwise fixing problems. His vision for the next ten years is that individuals would live a more capable life using technology, and not necessarily ease of it. Technology can assist us in making prevention more than cure. He is intent on leveraging the potential and might of sensors and electronics to free individuals from hospitals, age healthy and live well, and very much expand healthcare accessibility to low-socioeconomic or rural communities.
