Richard Larson is another term for an operations research expert. The individual who never likes to get deviated from the goal and data integrity and validity improvement, reorganization activities, and project time line requirements satisfaction is also being helped. He also helps improve further in coordinating research teams, research tool expertise building, research budgeting, regulatory and ethical requirements, and actively working towards research methodology improvement.

Richard is also as much familiar with theoretical knowledge as well as real problems. During office hours, he would find that for operations research, one has to make some efforts to study the real world deeply. This phenomenon occurs through creating a deserving and useful model and having follow-up implementation effects.

To utilize those skills, he formed a company with his friends. He owned and managed that business for 40 years. The major reason behind that business is to offer operation research consulting services. It was founded as a not-for-profit “Public Systems Evaluation, Inc.,” and later it was modified into a for-profit firm. Based on the perspective of Richard, there were a number of names. His most well-known name under which he had been conducting the business was ENFORTH Corporation. He said that at his best, there were more than 30 full-time professional staffs employed in ENFORTH. Due to ENFORTH, his MIT-based research as a scholar individual got more related to practical life.

Open-source learning comes to us in the form of offering us affordable, accessible learning hardware and embracing an open platform where one and all can contribute to building learning platforms. MIT BLOSSOMS is an example program created and developed by Richard and now being transformed into the main program to grow as an open-source learning platform integrating science and math learning.

Being a co-director of MIT Operations Research Center (ORC), he led the MIT Engineering School and other co-directors to the MIT Sloan School of Management and received many awards. Some of them were national and international in nature. The MIT ORC students and faculty never wasted their time to be regarded as being intelligent and masterful leaders for Operations Research. This was waking up from his dream because the newness of ORC provided the push to take it soaring.
