The Silicon Leaders Proudly Features Victoria Schulman as one of the Top 10 Most Inspirational Leaders Transforming Education in 2024

In this latest edition, The Silicon Leaders presents Victoria Schulman, Director of Science Research & Science Faculty at King School, one of the very highly acclaimed names in leading the revolution in the education of science, and most famously known for her enthusiasm in nurturing the passion for science among the students.  Having completed academic education with academic and research excellence, Victoria possesses the level of experience she can share with her students and motivate them to achieve new levels of scientific learning.

Victoria, the trend-setting innovator, a change leader breaking down the traditional classroom walls from the upper floors of King School, is the one. Her creativity in integrating active learning strategies into her practice has been referred to as compelling students into upper levels of understanding in scientific theory through experiential learning. Building a platform on which the student is a vital part of the scientific process, Victoria promotes an environment of inquiry, empowerment, and lifelong learning.

By merging these two concepts of a Flipped Classroom (homework video lectures; practicing concepts in class) and a Modern Classroom (video lessons as standalone), she now has a class where students most of the time are actual scientists and not listening to her tell them they’re going to be a scientist in class.

This new way of learning allows her to be able to learn and remember things faster because learning by “doing” is much more likely to be remembered than hearing about it or reading about it. Her students never get a chance to sit down in class, try something new, try out ideas, and implement complicated ideas.

Another of her interviewing skills that she offers to students is another skill that cannot be quantified but one students need to learn so they can become young adults and continue applying years down the road after high school. After the students have acquired an internship and are in the lab for some time, she then teaches the students how to present themselves well in science. These presentation styles consist of informal oral presentations, poster presentations, slide presentations, and informal “elevator pitches.” As the outline indicates, this training not only will ready the students to win the current science fairs and research competitions to which they will eventually submit, but will stand them in good stead throughout their entire careers, regardless of whatever specific field they eventually pursue.
